Squamish, BC resident Norm Hann has set out on a 190 mile paddle along the coastal edge of the Great Bear Rainforest, which stretches from Vancouver Island to southeast Alaska. It is one of the largest remaining tracts of unspoiled temperate rainforest in the world, and is one of the most prolific areas for marine and terrestrial wildlife anywhere in the world. Hann seeks to bring awareness to the environmental threat a proposed oil pipeline and resultant tanker traffic would have on the rainforest, its people and wildlife.
You can track Hann’s progress through posts, photos and videos HERE.

One of paddling’s most active supporters, and notable cobbler, “Sparky” Longley of RAINBOW SANDALS recently linked up with our own John Becker for a couple of test miles in Dana Point on a new 14′ Dominator. Thanks for the photos, John!

Always in good company, Sparky insisted that Gerry join the paddle, even if in a borrowed suit.

We’re starting to count the races that the Becker’s do NOT attend – and collect trophies from. John and Matt had another great showing at the Hovie NAC 9.5 miler yesterday in Newport Beach.
Matt took 3rd in 12′6” stock, and John claimed 1st in the 14′ class. We heard that the two stuck around long after crossing the finish line to let others demo their customs. Keep it up, guys!

Jodie Nelson made many friends on her Catalina crossing benefiting breast cancer awareness, including Larry the Whale and Ellen Degeneres. Check out her appearance on Ellen’s show HERE.

John & Matt Becker, along with Jimmy Terrell, continued their dominance at this year’s Catalina Ocean Challenge, claiming another 1st in the 40 mile event.
John sent in these photos and field note:
“Joe, thanks again for all the support from you and the BARK boys. We wouldn’t be winning without a BARK under our feet. Jimmy, Matt and I took 1st in 14′ class, and 4th overall behind 3 great unlimited teams. Our time was 6 hours 50 minutes,
All the best, John.”

Matt Becker off to an early lead on the carbon fourteen.

Our good friend Jodie Nelson became the first woman to paddle 39.8 grueling miles from Catalina to Dana Point last weekend. She finished in just over 9 hours, all in an effort to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and prevention. Jodie’s goal is to raise $100,000, and so far she has reached about $8,000. A warm welcome in Dana Point.
Mikey Cote has taken his paddling prowess to new levels this year, earning the title ‘Good Samaritan’ by the local Oahu news – when he helped rescue boaters and their belongings in the waters just steps from his lawn.

Unlimited to the rescue! This is a frame grab from the KITV VIDEO.
